50 Years of Porten, 40 Years of Friendship

The 344th day of 2019 is one of the last 50th birthdays of my childhood friends.  It's been surreal, for the past 2-3 years, to see all of my friends hitting that milestone, then hitting it myself (and, frankly, 50 has been SO much better than 40 was), and then seeing the "final 50s" if you will.  If there is one thing that Facebook does, it's illuminate the birthdays of all of your friends and acquaintances.  So, on 12/10/19, I wished a hearty happy birthday to one Jeff Porten.  Our parents knew each other before we were born, but I think we met 10 years post-birth, in 5th grade, at Masterman.  Tonight's gratitude is for 50 years of Porten, and 40 years of our friendship.  HAPPY BIRTHDAY, JEFF!

Being a Father

6/16/2019 is Father's Day.  And I spent the 166th day of 2019 doing things with my family.  Church, clothes shopping (I did need new (and smaller, thank goodness) clothes), naps, Disney Movies on TV, a GREAT dinner (mmmm lasagna by Sarah), and then more catching up on TV with the family.  I am so blessed that, on 4/2/2002, I was made a father.  Being a father has pretty much defined me since that day.  I am so grateful for being a father, as well as being thankful for those who have advised me and taught me and have helped me become a better father.  This, of course, includes my fathers and grandfathers, who have been shining examples to me, but also for all of those other people in my life who have been models and mentors, my mom, other relatives, my wife, friends, etc.  So, to all who have been in my life in regard to my parenting, HAPPY FATHER'S DAY!  (and thank you!)

More Numbers

Today, 11/24/19, is Day #328 of 2019.  As with most Sundays, after Church, I counted, with my counter colleagues, the offering that was collected.  So, on day 328, the Loose Offering was $27 and the total cash was $273.  I know it might sound geeky, but this is where my gratitude lies today.  I love that these are more numbers to make me happy.  And I am glad that a simple set of numbers can start my day off in a good manner.
