Hey Day
Since yesterday (5/1) was the last day of classes at Penn, today, 5/2/19, was Hey Day. And on the 122nd day of 2019, the Class of 2020 were proclaimed Seniors in front of College Hall. As I have for 28 of the last 30 Hey Days, I was there. No longer working for Dining, now I work with my VPUL colleagues in assembling and distributing the hats and canes and then protect the flank of the band from the marauding Juniors. And, although there are aspects (past and present) about Hey Day that I do not enjoy, the overall parade, looking back on the 38th St. Bridge at the procession down Locust Walk, and the assembly in front of College Hall with the Band playing music and students cheering and dancing are really wonderful traditions for me. Penn Traditions are some of my favorite things about my career at Penn. So, tonight, I am grateful for one of these traditions, Hey Day. Congratulations to the Class of 2020. One more year....
