Paying Taxes

I think the target of my gratitude on 4/15/19 is going to surprise many of you.  Yes, the 105th day of 2019 is Tax Day.  That is a day that causes anger in a lot of people.  But not I (I admit stress to figure out where the funds are to send to Uncle Sam sometimes).  I am grateful to pay taxes.  Paying taxes means a few things.  1) Those of us who pay taxes make enough money to have to pay taxes.  And 2) paying taxes contributes to the greater societal good.  Yes, I know, it's sappy (and a little Socialist, even), but I am glad to pay taxes (I just wish I could figure out how to withhold more so I could owe less on 4/15!)

My prayer for today is for all of those people blazing trails for under-represented people in their professions.  From Jackie Robinson, baseball pioneer, to Sally Ride, first female astronaut, to even Barrack Obama, our wonderful first African American President.  Stay strong, pioneers, and know that those who follow after are watching you intently.

My prayer for disagreement-infused people is for the people who tell the pioneers that they should turn back.  These people are trying to dissuade people form pursuing their dreams.  DREAM ON!

Being a Father

6/16/2019 is Father's Day.  And I spent the 166th day of 2019 doing things with my family.  Church, clothes shopping (I did need new (and smaller, thank goodness) clothes), naps, Disney Movies on TV, a GREAT dinner (mmmm lasagna by Sarah), and then more catching up on TV with the family.  I am so blessed that, on 4/2/2002, I was made a father.  Being a father has pretty much defined me since that day.  I am so grateful for being a father, as well as being thankful for those who have advised me and taught me and have helped me become a better father.  This, of course, includes my fathers and grandfathers, who have been shining examples to me, but also for all of those other people in my life who have been models and mentors, my mom, other relatives, my wife, friends, etc.  So, to all who have been in my life in regard to my parenting, HAPPY FATHER'S DAY!  (and thank you!)

More Numbers

Today, 11/24/19, is Day #328 of 2019.  As with most Sundays, after Church, I counted, with my counter colleagues, the offering that was collected.  So, on day 328, the Loose Offering was $27 and the total cash was $273.  I know it might sound geeky, but this is where my gratitude lies today.  I love that these are more numbers to make me happy.  And I am glad that a simple set of numbers can start my day off in a good manner.
