Nursing Preview Days

On the 98th day of 2019 I found myself in an old, familiar place.  I gave my Penn Traditions presentation on 4/8/19 in the Fagin Hall Auditorium to the prospective members of the Penn Nursing Class of 2023.  As I told them, you can take the boy out of Nursing, but you cannot take Nursing out of the boy.  I love talking about Penn to people who are excited to hear about Penn, so grateful for Nursing Preview Days and for Marianne Smith who invites me back each year!

My caring prayer today is for the accepted students for Penn Nursing, all of Penn, and all of the schools across the US.  May they make the right choice based on fit and interest rather than choosing based on reputation and prestige.  I am really starting to believe that choosing a campus that is not based on a fit is what is contributing to the stress and anguish within students of college age.  Prayers of wisdom and solace for these students (and their parents) deciding where to go.

My disagreement prayer is for the driver who felt the need to beep at me all the way down the block because they were made I made a right as they were coming down the street.  They were a far distance away and there was no need to rush.  It seems a lot of my disagreement prayers are traffic related.... hmmmmmm.

Being a Father

6/16/2019 is Father's Day.  And I spent the 166th day of 2019 doing things with my family.  Church, clothes shopping (I did need new (and smaller, thank goodness) clothes), naps, Disney Movies on TV, a GREAT dinner (mmmm lasagna by Sarah), and then more catching up on TV with the family.  I am so blessed that, on 4/2/2002, I was made a father.  Being a father has pretty much defined me since that day.  I am so grateful for being a father, as well as being thankful for those who have advised me and taught me and have helped me become a better father.  This, of course, includes my fathers and grandfathers, who have been shining examples to me, but also for all of those other people in my life who have been models and mentors, my mom, other relatives, my wife, friends, etc.  So, to all who have been in my life in regard to my parenting, HAPPY FATHER'S DAY!  (and thank you!)

More Numbers

Today, 11/24/19, is Day #328 of 2019.  As with most Sundays, after Church, I counted, with my counter colleagues, the offering that was collected.  So, on day 328, the Loose Offering was $27 and the total cash was $273.  I know it might sound geeky, but this is where my gratitude lies today.  I love that these are more numbers to make me happy.  And I am glad that a simple set of numbers can start my day off in a good manner.
